Crab Dip

Yesterday, I spent hours upon hours (well at least one) mixing up Royal Icing and making Batman emblems for my 3 year olds birthday this morning.  I was out of wax paper, no big deal, I just pulled out freezer paper and made them on those instead.  I woke up this morning to peel them off, and they failed miserably.  My guess is the freezer paper doesn't breath and they never fully dried out, but in all honesty, I only say that to sound smart, I have no idea what I did wrong.  So, before 10 am I frantically made up a Batman logo pick and stuck those in the top instead.  Even though I was super stressed with getting it all done, I will admit, I almost think they turned out cuter.  So, if you are ever in a bind and want a SVG file to cut out Batman picks with your Cricut (or Sillouette, I think), let me know, I'd be happy to shoot one over.  Heck, I'll even send it to you if you aren't in a bind ;).

Now you may be asking yourself, what does this have to do with crab dip.  Nothing, I just thought I'd share a piece of my morning with you.  Now onto the crab dip.  We first tried this recipe last Thanksgiving and everyone LOVED it.  I found the recipe in a Taste of Home cookbook.  When I made it again for dinner last night, we ate it first, and almost didn't care about dinner.  The best part is, it's super easy too.

Gather your ingerdients.  I'm the queen of "make do".  The recipe calls for Monterey Jack cheese.  I had a cheddar and monterey jack mix, in my mind, that's close enough.

Mix together the cream cheese, monterey cheese, horseradish, dill, salt, pepper, and milk in a bowl.  Combine till creamy.  Don't you love my mixing bowl.  Apparently I need to clean out my fridge as I couldn't find a decent mixing bowl anywhere.  My little sister now sells Tupperware, maybe I'll call her instead of cleaning out the fridge.
Add crab (remember to drain it first) and green onions, fold in.
Spread in a pie plate and bake.
While it's baking slice up your bread.  I prefer to use French bread or a baguette.  You can also eat this with tortilla chips or crackers.
And Enjoy.  Obviously, before you remember that you still have to take a finished picture for the blog.  What can I say, I just couldn't wait.  When it's done the edges will be slightly brown and pull away from the edge of the pan just a little.

Thanks!

  1. I love your cute post! I love you giving us the funny details, and I especially love the fact you mix your stuff in non-traditional bowls like the rest of us!! Right on sista! I'm a cook with the adjust to what you have recipe girl, and I have made this dip using several different kinds of cheese...whatever is on hand. I most often use some parmesan in my mix...adds great flavor!
    Thanks for sharing!
